Diederich College of Communication: Caroline
“I came into a professor’s office hours after doing not-so-hot on an exam. What was supposed to be a 15-minute conversation turned into an hour-long discussion about my life plan. She helped me find patterns in my exam scores, then asked what I’m interested in. She guided me towards my major and laid out this entire plan about Communications studies. She cared so much about me as a person — now I go to her for all big life questions.”

“I came in undecided [on a major] and ended up taking a communications course after hearing friends talking about it. I fell in love with it immediately and felt like this was what I am supposed to do.”
“Healthcare has always been an underlying passion for me. I’m really interested in what makes people pay attention to healthcare initiatives…like what makes people understand what Ebola is? How do you get companies to lower their healthcare costs? That’s where PR comes in. The more I learn about it, the more excited I am.”
Caroline Kupchella is a junior studying Communication Studies with a passion for healthcare. The professor she’s referring to is Dr. Feldner, who on top of working as the Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and Research, teaches undergraduate courses and advises Caroline. Most recently, she encouraged Caroline to explore her passions beyond our camus and apply to study abroad in either South Africa or Rome.
