Here’s where to find Doris Day movies online!

You don’t need us to tell you that there are countless reasons to completely adore living legend Doris Day. Not only has America’s Sweetheart been an icon of screen and song since the late 1940s, the megastar has also been a tireless champion of animal rights for decades. Her stage surname, Day, (she was born a “Kappelhoff”) was taken from a tune she sang in her early singing days called “Day After Day,” and true to form, she’s been delighting and enchanting audiences ever since — day after day. Lovable, charming, and outrageously talented, Doris Day is one of the last surviving leading ladies from Hollywood’s Golden Age, and she is a potent reminder that they just don’t make ’em like that anymore.

Here at Warner Archive, we’re happy to have seven of Miss Day’s movies in our streaming library that are emblematic of her broad appeal. While she is largely remembered for her lighter-than-air romantic musicals, the songbird was more than, well, just a songbird, as she proved time again in spunky sex comedies and smart dramatic thrillers.

Here are seven classic Doris Day movies — from musicals to comedies to thrillers — waiting for you right now at Warner Archive:

On Moonlight Bay (1952)

In 1917, banker George Winfield and his family, wife Alice, eighteen-year-old tomboy Marjorie (Doris Day), eleven-year-old Wesley and Max, the dog, move into a big new house. Although everyone, including Stella, the maid, hates the new house and neighborhood, George is determined that his children, particularly Margie, will have the opportunity to meet a better class of people. Handsome and idealistic Bill Sherman (Gordon MacRae) is not Mr. Winfield’s idea of “better people” and his engagement to young Marjorie sparks off plenty of fireworks for the family.

Tea for Two (1950)

Doris Day and her frequent co-star Gordon MacRae star as a 1920s heiress who aspires to stardom and the attorney who falls in love with her. Nanette Carter’s (Day) wealthy uncle agrees to finance a Broadway musical starring Nanette — on the condition that for 24 hours she answer “No” to any question. This one little stipulation leads to a whole host of romantic complications in this jazz-age musical. Loosely based re-working of the Broadway hit “No, No, Nanette”, the film features a greatest-hits of Roaring 20s standards including The Charleston and the titular Tea for Two.

The Glass Bottom Boat (1966)

Doris Day stars as a widowed writer who is mistaken for a spy when she is hired to write a biography of handsome research scientist Rod Taylor. A frolicking comic adventure packed with celebrities, including TV’s legendary pioneer Arthur Godfrey, Paul Lynde, Dom De Luise, Dick Martin, Alice Pearce, Ellen Corby, and Robert Vaughn.

It’s a Great Feeling (1949)

When studio executives decide to make a movie starring Dennis Morgan and Jack Carson, there’s only one problem: none of the directors at the studio will work with Jack, a well-known ham. The solution? Let Jack direct the film himself. But Jack’s troubles don’t end there. It seems that because of his reputation as a womanizer, none of the actresses at the studio will work with him either. Enter Judy Adams (Doris Day), a naive waitress at the studio commissary who hopes to break into the movies.

Julie (1956)

“What happened to Julie on her honeymoon?” asks the breathless poster to this fantastic whodunnit. Julie sees Doris Day starring as a stewardess being relentlessly stalked by her husband (Louis Jourdan). Widowed young Julie Benton (Day) remarries, only to discover that her new husband just might have killed her old husband…and is more than willing to kill again if anything comes between him and Julie. Fleeing his relentless pursuit, Julie thinks she has found sanctuary in the air but husband Lyle has other plans. From noted suspense auteur Andrew L. Stone, with title track sung by Ms. Day herself.

The Winning Team (1952)

In one of his finest screen performances, Ronald Reagan stars alongside Doris Day in this moving true biography of baseball great Grover Cleveland Alexander, who fights his way back from a blinding injury. While playing in the minor leagues, Alexander is hit in the head by a batted ball. Suffering from double vision and fainting spells, Alexander sees his career bottom out. But, helped by his wife (Doris Day), he makes a successful return that reaches its peak in the 1926 Yankees/Cardinals World Series.

Billy Rose’s Jumbo (1962)

The daughter of a circus owner fights to save her father from a takeover spearheaded by the man she loves in this big top musical. Doris Day, Martha Raye and Jimmy Durante star in this fun and lively production. Note: HD streaming available through a Roku set-top box.
