On Tuesday and Wednesday this week, a great new event took place in Munich. It was called the Bitcoin-TechDays and it was awesome! After the first day of lectures at another location, I had the joy to welcome a huge crowd interested in Bitcoin and related topics at one of the MaibornWolff offices in Munich. I wasn’t able to attend the first day, but i already catched up w/ the recorded livestream already.

Why was the event so great?

It was an awesome mix of great topics and speakers. While on Tuesday (12.03.) different talks on a variety of topics gave a good overview of the Bitcoin ecosystem, Wednesday provided the opportunity to apply this knowledge in 3 different workshops.

I didn’t hear a single price discussion all day. People were 100% focussed on building stuff. No signs of resignation at at all. 65 people (around 20!) from abroad, Munich and it’s greater area spend 2 days of #buidl.

The workshop

Crawling the Bitcoin Network

Learn to connect to Bitcoin peers, send and receive messages, and crawl the Bitcoin network. Workshop instructor was Justin Moon, he also hosts the popular Bits & Bolts YT show about hands-on BUIDLing. Don’t forget to visit his github if you love building stuff.

Cipher Node Workshop: Setting up Bitcoin ODROID full nodes

Another hands-on session. Jörg Hermsdorf outlined how to set a fully encrypted and secure Bitcoin full node and how to prepare it for Lightning. Some brains were toast afterwards. Great stuff!

How to build your own hardware wallet

What can i say? It is one of my favourite topics EVER. Stepan Snigirev dared to accept the challenge to build a hardware wallet from scratch with a room full of 40+ nerds.

So many happy faces w/ great results

I will surely check out his github on a regular basis from now on and make sure to checkout the video from day 1:

Stepan Snigirev, hardware attacks & DIY hardware wallets

Thank you!

A big thank you to everyone involved, but especially

  • to the bitcoinmuc team for investing a lot of time for education
  • MaibornWolff b/c the whole team is always open to host and sponsor local community events. This is NOT normal for a 500+ people company and i really appreciate it. We are hiring btw ;-)
  • To the speakers that do so much to advance this space
  • Extra #BTC OG points to my favourite CEO, the one and only YogicCEO.

The great amount of positive feedback from attendees was awesome and I am sure this won’t be the last event at MaibornWolff. A final “thanks” from me to all attendees and i hope to see you again next time!
