Much speculation supports that the terpenes are what sways the characteristics of your high when smoking and vaping cannabis, in my experience this seems to be true.

Different terpenes have unique profiles that give them their characteristics some are spicy ,citrus, or pine like and have a energizing or alert heightening effect others are floral, earthy, fruity and may give a relaxing more stress relieving effect. Cannabis like many things in nature have complex arrangements and combinations of these essential oils making for robust differences between strains and making each bud smell unique.
