A Boy and his favourite berries: the tale of procrastination
Once there was a boy, who was walking in a forest on a dirt road. It was one of the hottest days that summer. The boy knew that there was a lake somewhere in that forest. As he didn’t have anything else to do that day, he took a trip to this lake, although he wasn’t completely sure where to go. He had never been at the lake before, but he knew that a road went to it, because his family often went there by a car. He never managed to go there with them, but now he wanted to go there alone. He hadn’t achieved anything in his life yet and he didn’t have any long-term hobbies, but he liked to swim. So he thought that if he went there alone, he could put all his energy in practising better, and if he was going to get good at it, he had to be responsible and serious about it.
He fantasized about how it would be to be the greatest swimmer in the world and winning many events in the future while he was on his way. He was going for a long time now and he still didn’t see a lake nowhere near. He started to have his doubts. Then he noticed on his left something that looked like a path inside the woods. He looked back at his front, where he saw the road going long way in to the horizon. The lake had to be near, because he was walking quite a long way, but he was lost and unsure about his location. He could just go back and ask his family about the location, but he wanted to do this by himself and it would be just a waste of time if he went back. He went in the forest and started taking this random path he found. After couple of steps, he saw that it wasn’t really a path, but just an empty space between the long grass, which ended after couple of meters and didn’t lead anywhere. When he turned around, he saw a huge bush of blueberries in front of him. He was happily surprised by his founding, blueberries were his favourite type of berries. He started picking them up and eating one by one. As he had had the taste of first couple of berries, he continued, grabbing two or three berries at a time and unintentionally squishing them between his fingers while it happened. He didn’t notice how the time passed as all the berries were gone from the bush. He looked deeper in to the forest and saw more blueberry bushes ahead. He took a step, then looked at a road. It was still close, it wouldn’t go anywhere. He moved aside a lot of tree branches while he was going deeper for more blueberries.
He didn’t return to the road and never knew if it lead to the lake. Also, he never became the greatest swimmer.
