Action can be taken while maintaining civility. The idea of not lowering the bar of conversation comes to mind, and I have a particular distaste for all kinds of extremist groups, largely because they distract from the underlying issues that they supposedly raise concerns about.

The system may be pitted against certain individuals, but you cannot hate the players. You should hate the game. By participating in the political process (not merely protesting it), you can change the rules of that game for yourselves.
