This speaks to a larger, unconscious issue with society. I think that prison reform would be immensely helpful to those who are truly repentant or who are in for less serious problems.

Prison, in its current form, is not an environment built on recovery. It’s built on fear, and it creates an psychological echo chamber (person vs. self). It’s like sanctioned abusive relationship meets involuntary timeshare.

Instead of finding a creative outlet for that energy, it overtakes the person when they exit, making them prone to relapse. If want to truly rehabilitate bad people, we must not make them resent this world to begin with.
