Vancouver School Board Wins Prize

File Under: Often wrong, never in doubt.

As a construction professional, I look at a situation like the firing of the Vancouver School Board, and it makes me crazy. But not for the reasons you might expect.

Public owners are not equipped to manage construction projects. VSB seismic upgrades and other large design-build projects are a perfect example. Multi-million dollar projects are mismanaged, resulting in a waste of taxpayer dollars, and then everyone cries “No Budget” for the important stuff.

Owners in the public sector: pay more attention to how to you procure construction services. Save yourselves, your contractors, and your communities the headache of making it up as you go along.

My inaugural Cubitt Prize goes to…

The BC Ministry of Education and the Vancouver School Board for a seismic mismanagement. But thanks for shaking it up!

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?
