PubLoft started in an unusual way. It never should have happened. I quit my job and cold emailed 300 random startups for services I’ve never provided before. 15+ clients later, 4 website redesigns later, and lots of lessons learned later, we get to where we are today. This is PubLoft.

Before I I tell you about what PubLoft is and how we got here, I need to tell you about someone who helped me get it here. My Co-founder Ethan Naluz.

Ethan Naluz

When I first was getting started with PubLoft, I was overly optimistic in my ability to get this done. We didn’t need a programmer and I thought I was capable of doing it all myself. Month after month of beating myself up and having no one to talk to about the issues I was going through, I realized that this wasn’t a job for one person. It didn’t hit me overnight.

There were a select few people that I talked to about my problems with PubLoft in the first few months. Ethan was one of them. His affinity to startups, eagerness to help, and just general aptitude impressed me. From working on PubLoft at Galvanize at 10:00 pm at night to coming into Skysong after a long day of work and complaining for an hour, he was there.

He was turning into a co-founder and I didn’t even realize it. Ultimately, it came down to a discussion where we were talking about how I needed help but couldn’t afford any employees. He just said,

“Sounds like you need a co-founder”

After two months of playing the unofficial role, we talked about what it looked like, split it 50/50, and decided to take this thing on together. PubLoft wouldn’t be where it is today without him. Speaking of where PubLoft is today, let’s get into it.

We Run On Medium

The biggest lesson we learned the past 5 months is that our lack of experience in writing shows. We needed more talented writers, and talented editors to make sure everything is stay on track. Due to that, we have to make some changes. The biggest change that PubLoft has had is that we run on Medium. What does this look like?

It means we are hosting our clients’ blogs on Medium, where great content gets rewarded with more traffic

It means our writers aren’t our own peers anymore; They are top writers on Medium in any given domain.

It means we have the ability to post your blog posts into high traffic Medium publications that we have partnered with that get hundreds of thousands of monthly page views.

PubLoft has changed what we do to fit with the times. Medium is a rocketship and we want to latch on and take as many startups as we can with us. So, if you are a startup with an inactive blog, a blog you don’t want to manage, or no blog at all, I encourage you to check out PubLoft. You would join others such as 500 Startups, OnboardIQ, and Pypestream who went with us.

If interested at all, please email me at Mat@publoft.com and let’s get your blog up and running again :)
