What to say about the current situation in Greece?

As an institution, the European Union have failed because they have accepted members in a monetary union with members who have different policies. Without a strong political/social union, the Eurozone is doomed to fail. This policy from decades ago backfired in a spectacular matter today.

The greatest opposition to any more bailout to the Greek government is not from Germany but rather from Eastern European countries who don’t have the social and pension policies which are seen as normal in Greece.

Many people outside Europe (and a lot of Europeans themselves) don’t understand the EU well. While becoming a member of the EU and after of the Eurozone, the Greek government accepted to give some of their powers to the European Union in return for some privileges. I still think that SYRIZA love the EU as a cow to milk — and between staying in the EU and having a sizable rise in taxes and a few state-owned gimmicks privatized (that’s the Greek version of ‘’austerity’’) — SYRIZA would rather choose to stay in the EU and rant more against Germans.

The greatest fear now about the EU? Would an institution invented to supposedly prevent wars — will now create new wars between people of different European countries because of the EU badly made policies.
