Shawn Achor- Harvard Alumni

Recently, I had an outstanding experience on TED talks listening to the life changing presentation by Shawn Achor, who is Happiness researcher and successful author of books. According to him our happiness is in our control and it does not depend upon the success or achieving something. If we think that getting a better job, better house, car and grades would make us more happy in life then we are wrong. Seems so absurd! isn’t it? Through out all of our lives we have been thinking like this and in turn we only get misery, unfulfilled experience and lots of stress and depressions. We change our mindset accordance to our surroundings, each time we get a target we become happy not on long term scale but a short period of time. Looking backwards, things which were once our dream desires had lost their taste because we had have achieved them. We do not have any gratitude of the past successes and privileges instead we impose stress each time by setting goals, thinking we can’t be happy unless we achieved them.

The point of explaining it is that we have to be successful, OK! That is genuine need of ours. But we have to develop our positive mindset for it, we should be grateful for the life and opportunities. In that way after having gratitude, self realization, we will be working in a more productive way than before, as stated by the mind sciences.

“Shawn Achor explores the 5 steps of becoming positive and happy towards life thus increasing the productivity and success”
The five steps are:
5 steps towards happiness

Problem

Let us explain how it will going to work for some students perspective who is looking for job right now. He is eager to find job related to his field, he scored an average marks and pursued his desired degree.Other than getting grades he has an excellent ability to learn, and generate concepts of his field related subjects in a more practical way than the fellows with good grades. He has some skills like communication abilities, leadership, planning, and team management. His targets would be getting a job but having a hard time getting one by reference or any other easy means. He develop some negative and dis encouraging thoughts leading to depressing, anxiety and self doubt.

Positive mindset

He should instead of thing negative be happy that he has the right skills, suited degree, average but not least type of scores as they do not define his mental capabilities but hard work, He should be grateful for all the advantages, and benefits. He should be happy and stay positive as it will open new doors by the above mentioned techniques.

How?

According to the Shawn chart of how to develop a positive mind. He can focus on gratitude, write down at least 3 different events or things which were blessings in a day. So that he could realize that life is going well not just bad, he would improve it more by increasing his positive mindset. He should do some cardio exercise on daily basis as exercise will help to reduce stress and his mental and physical health will improve too. He can also aid some meditation like praying to God, or may be even Yoga or some breathing exercises. At the end the most important thing he should do some random acts of kindness like mailing to the HR manager, teachers or students who have supported him. He should do good with others as so he will receive the same in response.
