Introduction

This article will introduce the case-opening system of the MATR1X ecosystem, highlighting its features, design philosophy, and significance to the MATR1X gaming ecosystem. It aims to provide the community with a deep understanding of the MATR1X case-opening, including the strategic importance of the cases, how they can be acquired, the costs associated with opening them, the rewards they contain, and the mechanisms of their output.

1. Why is the MATR1X case mechanism important?

Before introducing the case mechanism, we would like to briefly introduce the asset issuance path in MATR1X.

In the entire MATR1X ecosystem, the issuance of the vast majority of assets follows the logic and path outlined below. However, adjustments may be made based on the differences in assets and the complexity of the activities. But overall, they adhere to this general framework.

1. Mining rigs which are the vouchers for acquiring new assets. In the MATR1X ecosystem. assets such as characters, NFTs, accounts, and whitelists can all be considered mining rigs.

2. Mining fundamentally a proof of work, has traditionally in most GameFi contexts involved playing the game as the primary mining activity. With the introduction of DeFi mechanisms, additional mining activities such as staking, lending, and trading have become prevalent. Even more mining activities have been introduced to the MATR1X ecosystem, including playing games, watching matches, predicting scores, staking NFTs, opening cases, depositing assets, and consuming assets, etc.

3. Mines which represent rewards, were simply tokens in the GameFi 1.0 era. In the MATR1X ecosystem, we aim to perform integrated innovation on mine output by introducing the concept of random case lucky boxes to dynamically balance the system’s output. This is the origin of the “case mechanism”.

Importance of the Case Mechanism

After introducing the case mechanism, users who own mining rigs and engage in mining will receive two types of earnings:

  1. Direct rewards, such as $FIRE or $MAX.
  2. Random case rewards, which are opened using $FIRE plus a small amount of stablecoin, randomly yielding high-quality weapon NFTs.

The process by which different players choose between these two types of rewards serves as the system’s balancing mechanism.

Below, we will explain the case mechanism in detail using MATR1X FIRE.

By holding character mining rigs while participating in game mining, the direct reward from MATR1X FIRE output is $FIRE while cases can also be obtained. It is important to emphasize that, unlike the vast majority of GameFi games, $FIRE are not infinitely produced; their total cap is set at 1,000,000,000 coins.

Economic Cycle of $FIRE

  1. As the number of mining rig holders increases, the output of $FIRE gradually increases, and as the number of cases opened increases, the consumption of $FIRE also increases.
  2. When the number of users reaches a certain scale and the output of $FIRE reaches the total cap, no more will be produced.
  3. As case openings continue, the consumption of $FIRE also continues, and production will begin again.
  4. Mining output and case consumption cycle in this way, with $FIRE acting like a reservoir. In the future, the size and flow rate of this reservoir will also be adjusted in conjunction with the community.

Till here, the importance of the MATR1X case opening mechanism is self-evident. The case lucky box mechanism essentially provides a random channel for asset acquisition and offers an asynchronous gaming space. In the process of gaming, this allows the overall asset prices to reach equilibrium. The limited edition and out-of-print mechanism of the case lucky boxes also provide users with different choices.

3. Application of the MATR1X Case Mechanism: Ecological Games

In the MATR1X ecosystem (matr1x.io), the case mechanism is ubiquitous and plays a significant role in three current games: MATR1X FIRE, MATR1X Battle, and Castile.

When Playing MATR1X FIRE, holding character NFTs for mining can produce cases, of which the quantity is predetermined for each season. Currently,Here are the specific gameplay and paths for case production in the MATR1X FIRE game:

  1. Case Production: Hold a MATR1X FIRE character for mining; cases drop with a fixed output each season, and become out-of-print 3–4 months later.
  2. Case Consumption: $FIRE + a small amount of stablecoin.
  3. Case Reward 1: Obtain in-game NFT assets, which are limited edition and can be likened to the skin system in CSGO.
  4. Case Reward 2: Earn MAX Scores, which are converted into $MAX airdrops at the end of the season.
  5. Case Reward 3: Unlock top-tier skins and receive additional $MAX airdrops.
  6. Asset Synthesis: 10 lower-tier skin assets can be synthesized into a higher-tier skin asset.
  7. Skin Tiers: Include standard editions and special editions (such as those dropped during tournaments or special events).

MATR1X FIRE Case Opening Cycle

In the MATR1X gaming ecosystem, the case system has the following characteristics:

Randomness: When opening cases, it randomly produces common NFTs and rare NFTs.

Rare NFTs: The cases contain extremely rare and precious in-game asset NFTs, such as special weapon skins, knives, gloves, etc.

Diverse Types: Seasonal cases, commemorative cases, player creative workshop cases… Each type of case contains specific series or themed weapon skins and in-game asset NFTs.

Low Barrier to Entry: The user participation threshold is very low. Cases can be obtained through playing games, watching matches, etc., and rare precious accessory NFTs can be acquired at a very low cost of opening cases.

2. Application of the MATR1X Case Mechanism: KUKU X Collection Souvenir Cases

In addition to obtaining cases through game mining, actions such as staking NFTs, watching esports matches, and predicting scores can also yield cases, following the same opening logic and path described above. We will use the KUKU X Collection Souvenir Cases produced by staking MATR1X KUKU NFTs as an example.

In 2023, MATR1X issued its third set of NFT assets, MATR1X KUKU, which is a platform-level asset that continuously receives airdrops from the MATR1X platform. The first airdrop is the KUKU X Collection Souvenir Cases produced by staking NFTs.

KUKU X Collection Souvenir Case Gameplay and Rewards

  1. Stake KUKU NFT to accumulate loyalty and receive KUKU X Collection Souvenir Cases; the higher the loyalty, the more cases awarded.
  2. KUKU X Collection Souvenir Case Opening: $FIRE + a small amount of stablecoin.
  3. KUKU X Collection Souvenir Case Reward 1: Top-tier NFT assets, limited edition.
  4. KUKU X Collection Souvenir Case Reward 2: Earn early $MAX rewards; the higher the value of the NFT opened, the higher the bonus coefficient of $MAX received.
  5. Asset Synthesis: Combine 10 lower-tier skin assets to create a higher-tier skin asset.

Main Features of KUKU X Collection Souvenir Cases

  1. First collection case in the MATR1X ecosystem, capable of producing top-tier collection NFTs.
  2. Limited edition, with a total of about 500K cases available.
  3. Approximately 30–40 million $MAX are expected to be allocated to the KUKU X Collection Souvenir Case opening system.

4. Considerations Behind the Design of the MATR1X Case System

Finally, the considerations behind the MATR1X case system. We believe that P2O (Play to Own) + case economy is a fusion of Web2 + Web3 innovative economic models, with great potential to break the “death spiral” often seen in GameFi.

  1. Mechanisms similar to case openings have existed outside of games for a long time, such as baseball card pulls or gashapon machines, which have remained popular over the years.
  2. The case mechanism has also withstood the test of time and market in the gaming economy. For example, CSGO’s weapon cases and Overwatch’s loot boxes have thrived; in CSGO’s flourishing case system, the annual transaction volume of accessories alone amounts over tons of billions of dollars.
  3. The case system provides players with more strategic options and enhances the system’s anti-fragility. Traditional GameFi has been limited to gold farming — earning tokens as the sole option. As the number of new players reaches a critical point, token output increases, but without new players entering to consume tokens, the system inevitably enters a death spiral.
  4. The case system, centered around seasons or competitions, ensures the game content is continuously updated with new cases. This persistent presence of token consumption scenarios (case openings) establishes a virtuous cycle within the entire economic system. Players have more strategic choices, such as earning tokens, investing in cases, engaging in case openings, or investing in in-game asset NFTs.
