Mayweather vs. McGregor

Most of you probably heard about this upcoming boxing match between boxing phenom Floyd Mayweather and MMA’s Conor McGregor set for August 26th. After studying the two fighters, here is my analysis:
Do I dare watch it?

Yes. You watch this fight. Are you out of your mind? This isn’t even a real question. If money is a problem, selectively pick ten of your friends to come over and have them pitch in ten dollars. This is a once in a lifetime event that won’t occur EVER again in combat sports.
It Will Be Boring
There is a small chance Floyd Mayweather (49–0) and Conor McGregor (0–0) play “touch butt” for 12 rounds, but I highly doubt it. Two of the most electrifying fighters in the history of combat sports going at it. Just hands no feet. Say no more. I can’t find anything boring about witnessing a top ranked mixed martial artist make the merge into boxing, against the best defensive boxer of this era. The fight needs to happen and we must look at the parameters.
McGregor Doesn’t Box

McGregor in 10 ounce gloves looks extremely weird, trust me I know. The move from 4 ounce gloves to 10 ounce gloves will not help McGregor at all. McGregor is notoriously known for his one punch knockout power, 10 ounce gloves only softens that power. Conor is also somehow undefeated in the boxing ring. We have no idea how good Conor’s boxing really is. Looking at his past MMA bouts, he is just OK. With all that said, I wouldn’t count him out. If Floyd Mayweather gets a tummy ache the night before the fight, shit could hit the fan. “Anything is possible” said Kevin Garnett and that applies to fighting also.
Boxing Feels Disrespected

Good. Boxing has been on the decline for years. This super fight is doing boxing a huge favor. Robin Black said it best, “Disruptions only come from the outside.” McGregor is trying to disrupt boxing like the crazy man he is. All things constantly evolve and change over time, that includes boxing. We will one day look back at boxing in 2017 and think it was a fucking joke. Robin Black explains this theory in detail below:
The Press Tour Was A Joke

Say what you feel, but I enjoyed almost every minute of this circus act. One press conference would of been just fine, but they gave us four. This is how you sell a fight and it is a part of the fight. If I were to score this as a bout, I’d score the LA press conference in favor of Mayweather 10–9. Round 2 went to McGregor 10–9. Round 3 was a draw in New York and was cringe worthy as fuck. Lastly, round 4 went to McGregor 10–9. So, 39–38 in favor of McGregor. Mental warfare for this boxing match is alive and well and it is safe to say both sides dislike each other.
The Superman Punch

A lot of people have asked me what I thought about McGregor using the Superman punch against Mayweather. It won’t work. The Superman punch is legal for this boxing match but it is ineffective. In order to throw an effective Superman punch, you must fake a leg kick. If McGregor even attempts to fake a leg kick in this boxing match, he will face a lawsuit. I mean could you imagine Conor kicking the shit out of Mayweather? I can.
What if Mayweather loses?
He won’t. Mayweather WILL outbox McGregor. The only way Mayweather loses is if he gets knocked out. And that is what makes this fight intriguing. If Conor somehow finds a way to clip Mayweather on the chin, which I think is highly unlikely, I will never doubt the man again. But, I think it’s important that we at least think about that outcome being a possibility.
What’s Next For McGregor?

McGregor MUST defend his UFC lightweight belt after this boxing match. As great of a fighter that he is, he has yet to defend a belt in any weight class. Nate Diaz has served McGregor his only loss in the UFC by tapout. He then came back to win the second fight, but not by much. If Nate Diaz didn’t give McGregor the rematch, he wouldn’t be in the position that he is in today. Diaz ultimately deserves a trilogy more than McGregor deserved that rematch.
If it is humanly possible for McGregor to have nightmares, I’m guessing Nate Diaz is in every single one of them. Be ready because this trilogy between McGregor and Diaz will be bigger than this boxing match and will likely be the last time we see both fighters in a cage.
