I agree with much of your comment. Just a couple of notes:

-It’s over-simplistic to think that Trump supporters get their sole identity by being against the left. He tapped into a lot of middle American angst from folks who weren’t simply “against the left,” but were against a broken political system. Otherwise, Jeb Bush or Rubio would have been a more palatable nominee for them. And as we learned, they weren’t.

-And you’re right. HRC’s supporters ignored and glossed over her faults in the exact same manner as Trump’s supporters do for his faults.

-Lastly, hillbillies is not hyphenated. (Believe it or not, some of us hillbillies have gone to college.)
