KONCEPT — the Queens, New York-born / Seoul, South Korea-based MC — is ready to shine since dropping 14 Hours Ahead, the follow-up to his 2012 solo debut Awaken.

Released in June 2017, 14 Hours Ahead is both ambitious in scope and grounded in simplicity. For thirteen tracks, Koncept wields polysyllabic flows over a diverse set of stories and sonics, woven within the backdrop of Kon’s newfound home in Asia.

Depicted in his newest single “Overboard”, Koncept paints a picture of unrequited love and unfettered lust. He displays wisdom beyond his years, assumedly assisted by his world travels and extensive creative portfolio.

Watch the world premiere of the “Overboard” video below, and get to know more about Koncept after the jump!

ON VIDEO CREATION

The song is titled “Overboard” which means a few different things.

One being an overreaction. It is wise to think before making an action, or even speaking.

Sometimes without sitting back and evaluating a situation, people can react to something in the wrong way. This can result in making the situation much bigger or worse than it was ever intended to be. We can all be caught doing this sometimes. Our emotions are strong and can sometimes get the best of us making us act without taking a chance to breathe and think. Therefore, going “overboard”.

Another meaning behind the song is having a situation happen where it has gone too far, and quite frankly, they need to be thrown “overboard”. Just deciding that the relationship is no longer going to work out.

The music video was shot in Thailand on a boat between Pattaya and Kho Samed. Thailand is an amazing place. I wanted the video to be simple and just have clear shots to show you how beautiful this world can be. Being on a boat also fit the song title and theme perfectly.

Plus, I get to have footage to always remind me of this amazing place that I’ve had the privilege to travel to and experience.

ON WOMEN

The smile of a woman is hard to deny.

Love is the connection when you feel somebody’s soul and heart and care about them emotionally.

Lust is typically physical and short-term desire.

ON 14 HOURS AHEAD

14 Hours Ahead is about working towards your future. It’s about seeing what’s ahead of you, what you’ve been working for and achieving it. It’s seeing the bigger picture. Learning, growing, and doing better daily and reaching new goals.

It’s taught me that hard work pays off as long as you stay consistent and never stop believing in yourself.

ON FOLLOWING DREAMS

Honestly, I knew that my dreams would become reality. It wasn’t going to be overnight, but that was OK with me. I’ve been working to grow something that is strong and will last forever. Sometimes things that happen too quickly don’t have a strong enough foundation to last forever. I could feel the love and how things were moving and where I wanted and would take it to.

I knew it would take a lot of work, but I also knew I was capable of it, and I love doing so.

Although, I had no idea I would be living overseas — at least not in Asia, anyway. I remember the first time I went to Europe and playing shows in London and Switzerland and thinking that both places could be somewhere I could spend time in a some point in my life. At that point I had never been to Asia, so before coming here I didn’t really have any expectation besides enjoying the experience.

I flew to Seoul, South Korea for what was supposed to only be a two-week tour and to work with some artists, and then it was just a quick domino effect of great opportunities.

At first it was just that I was going to stay for a few extra weeks, and then lead to working out a deal with Sony Music Asia to release the new album, 14 Hours Ahead. In the time period of finalizing the album and everything that goes with the release, it became a home to me as I was building the brand more and more out here and seeing all the possibilities and potential of staying here.

ON AUTHENTICITY

I think it is very important to stay true to yourself, and to be honest with the fans, your friends and family. It’s important for your own soul. Pretending to be something you’re not can be tiring and stressful.

THANK YOU

All the fans that support me and buy the music, share the music and come to the shows; I couldn’t be here without you. Everyone that I worked with on this album. We made music that will last forever. Your talents are tremendous.

My friends that have believed in me and have helped me in one way or another throughout the years to get to this point in my career and life. You know who you are. I forever have your back.

And my family for always believing in me and showing me love, support and courage to keep going.

I LOVE YOU ALL!
