Weekenders

Brick baked heat drops panting dogs & children

as parents pinkly peel.

Sausage & chop succumb to the barbie’s rough kiss

& gently char.

Toothless baps wait to be fed.

Grandparents customise winter wear –

revealing pale arm & knee.

Mum & dad clutch cool cans,

beam & relax.

Sticky as a bun, children bawl, bicker & screech

Through ice-cream oceans,

Attracting wasp, fly & bee.

And the flip-flopped multitude applauds summer’s start,

Beneath a blue unblinking sky.
