Protect Your Creative Self

This is advice a friend gave me. There is always one more task to do, or one more email to answer. Work is always calling, at all hours of the day. It always will.

There is always one more dish in the sink, one more task to do, one more ping from your phone.

Protect your creative self. It’s easy to put off self-nurture until tomorrow. It’s easy to skimp on self-care. Creativity is self-nurture and self-care.

Regardless of how you do it, protect your creative self. Take some time each day for your creative pursuit. Drop every thing and read, or write, or paint, or play with Lego.

Minutes, hours and days slip by, and days turn into years. Gone are the days when the wisdom was “get a hobby when your retire”. Make your fulsome creative self your true daily self.

  • start that novel
  • submit that poem
  • learn to draw
  • enroll in a writer’s workshop
  • take a course on Coursera
  • learn to play the banjo from YouTube videos
  • learn to code just by playing with code, to see how it works.

Protect your creative self.
