Fasting: Part 2

As I’m writing this, it’s been 73 hours and 11 minutes since I’ve eaten. Anyway, I’m hungry.

I was hoping my regimen of bone broth and sugarless electrolytes would stave off any flu-like symptoms but perhaps I’m not ingesting enough. I’m a little warm and bowel movements have become dicey but I must press on.

The hunger isn’t intolerable quite yet but I certainly miss food. The damndest part is I won’t be able to dive back into all the trashy food I love. When I resume eating (in roughly 50 hours) I’ll have to ease back into eating with things like eggs and yogurt. That first gulp of yogurt should be incredible. The last time I did a fast this long I wound up watching food challenge YouTube videos. Shoutout to Matt Stoney.

A motivator I haven’t already mentioned is that I’m in a weight loss competition with my brother and his girlfriend. Glory will be mine.

On a more serious note, I’m excited to eat decreased portions after this fast. Before doing this I was down to one meal a day and an evening snack. I know it’s become a global joke but American portion sizes are interesting when compared to almost anywhere else. Having been on both sides of the appetite spectrum, it’s reassuring to know how much of it is actually in our control. When I had poor eating habits, I never considered that the way I ate was perpetuated itself. In my heyday, I would down two fast food combos without batting an eyelash. It’s crazy to think I normalized such things.

Onward and upward. Send food.
