Great piece! Excited for Season 3.

The high supply of shows about messy, (more) realistic relationships and people makes me think about how successful Freaks & Geeks would have been in 2016. Beyond its binge-ability, people would have loved that gang of misfits, and how they fumbled their way through high school. The show definitely benefits from it’s now famous cast and the charm of being “ahead of its time”, but released as a 2016 Netflix show, Freaks & Geeks would have been an insanely popular hybrid of the modern depression comedies mentioned in your piece, and young ensemble-lead nostalgia shows like Stranger Things and The Get Down.
