A quick look at Brave browser ads preview in v0.60

Brave recently shipped the dev build version 0.60 which features Opt-in ads (Users will be able to earn 70% of the revenue share coming from those ads soon)

I’ve downloaded the dev build, and started digging for the ads catalog, here are some data extracted from the ads .JSON file:

Please keep in mind that this is a dev. build on a very early version of the ads feature

  • There is a dailyCap and a budget for each campaign
  • dailyCap is fixed at 25000 (BAT?) for the campaigns as of today, budget fixed at 50000. Those numbers are most likely placeholders, and will change with the release of the revenue-sharing program in a near future
  • A list of the target URLs for the ads (‘targetUrl’ in catalog.json):

  • BuySellAds brought ads from their inventory, so we have ads for : Slack, Loggly, Papertrail, HelloSign, AppOptics
  • There is a “execution”: “per_click” parameter, so I guess you can configure a campaign to be paid per click or per impression
  • There is a “geoTargets” parameter, which value can be “United States” for example. So it appears that the ads can be configured to be geo targeted
  • Campaigns are based on a “segments” parameter, which value can be “Arts & Entertainment”, “Technology & Computing” , “Education”, “Personal Finance”, “Travel”,”Real Estate”, “Home”, “hobbies & interests”, “food & drink” , “Business” and “commerce”

From the Brave Rewards tab:

  • If you Opt-in for ads, you can choose how often ads are displayed, between 1 to 5 per hour
