I’m Done Trying to Please Everyone!

Probably one of the dumbest statements we make isn’t it? We’ll always go back to pleasing those around us. If we never have each other’s welfare in focus, our selfishness will eventually cause our friends and family will resent us. Sure I can be myself and not be an incessant ‘people pleaser’, no one’s focus should be solely on others and you can’t care for yourself if it were. It’s not healthy to be obsessive and desperate about hanging on the praise of others as if it were oxygen. But a large part of who I am, and part of who you are (whether you want to admit it or not) desires approval, admiration and affirmation. We’re neither movie stars nor are we deserving of idolization, but it’s difficult to receive if we haven’t given. It’s in our nature to give and see the smiles of those around us; we love to see our effect on people! So no, you’re not done. You’re tired and it’s good to take a rest, but get back on that horse soon otherwise you’ll be left standing alone, wondering why no one is pleasing you. Oh and don’t forget to acknowledge those who please you! Being a bad gift receiver is how everyone gets in this boat in the first place isn’t it?
