In 2001, the Portland Streetcar began servicing the local community across nearly 5 miles of track in the downtown area. Within its first year in operation, the Streetcar celebrated a ridership of more than 1.3 million people. Now with a track that spans 16 miles, the Portland Streetcar regularly serves over 14,000 per weekday.
The year 2018 has marked an especially prosperous time for the Portland Streetcar, which set a new record for its weekday ridership. In April, an average of 16,650 individuals rode the Streetcar around the city per day, which surpassed the former record of 16,351 from February in the year prior. This brought the Streetcar’s total ridership to more than 434,000 for the month of April.
The Portland Streetcar hopes to increase its daily ridership even more through the introduction of additional streetcars. By 2025, the Streetcar hopes to service as many as 20,000 riders on a daily basis.
