What is Product Development: The creation of products with new or different characteristics that offer new/additional benefits to the customer.

Yes benefits and almost all product ideation start with the user’s first approach, CX/UX are of prime importance but somehow as things move ahead business metric takes precedence, and things are all over the place. This isn’t a new story and has become parts and parcel of our professional life and needs to be overcome. It’s a battle worth fighting for.

Great UX is the best way to earn customer trust.

The Dilemma:
I always struggle whether we are creating a product (by definition) or creating commodity to increase our revenue. Many a time our sales driven approach supersedes concept of the winning product.

Developing a product requires us to see past trends and current patterns to make better guesses about the future. And yes consumer (customized user) should be the center of everything we do. But on the contrary is this the way we execute?

Here is how I see the system to work:

It also boils down to priorities and clear understanding of “What‘s end customers need.” If you are to do important work, then you must work on the right problem at the right time and in the right way. Without any of the three, you may do a good job, but you will almost certainly miss real greatness which in this case is winning product.

An Approch:

I would encourage every organization to adopt Design Thinking, which at the core converts needs into demand and gives us a chance to know our customers better. This also adds stakeholders involvement early on and realizing the potential benefits.

“Design Thinking” — a methodology that imbues the full spectrum of innovation activities with a human-centered design ethos. It isn’t always easy to change the culture, but with the right approach, I have seen this happening.

Conclusion:
Knowing customer pain point is the key and helps create a winning product. Get into user shoe and be concerned about value proposition, target audience which will eventually get you metrics. Adapting to change basis user empathy helps us differentiate from machines and be professional organisms.
