Oh my Lord. There is not a time when a person of color talks or writes about some form of oppression be it lingering, present or past and white people don’t feel attacked or no need to voice their opinion on what they’ve never experienced.
As another person that has lots of melanin over the years I’ve always though about my last name and the history attached to it.
I’ve never thought too much about changing it. It also doesn’t help that it’d be a complete pain in the ass to have to change it on everything that bears my name in documents.
I think it’s good to remember the history by not changing it and continue to remind people in the form of jokes of my roots to slavery.
Besides I have a very cool nickname that everyone calls me, Moonbear.
Anyway I see why you’d want to change yours or the argument as to why people with high a melanin count would do so.
These other people are ridiculous. They would never say that in person smh…have a good day 🙃.
