Mr. McDillet has pretty significant tooth staining from taking a certain antibiotic during childhood and is extremely embarrassed by any focus on his teeth. He finally starting seeing the dentist regularly a few years ago and had no issues (despite not being to the dentist in something like 20 years). In the past year or so, we’ve both been increasingly dissatisfied with the dentist we see, but Mr. McDillet refuses to switch because he doesn’t want to explain his teeth to someone new. What I say to him (not that it helps) is that there is no way that your teeth are the worst thing the dentist sees that day. Sure, someone is the worst, but it’s probably not the 40-something year old who brushes his teeth several times a day.
