McDonald’s UAE Truck Fleet has reached 5,000,000 KM Milestone run by Biodiesel
McDonald’s UAE and Neutral Fuels LLC have reached a significant milestone in their proposed partnership when the McDonald’s fleet logistics trucks have hit 5,000,000 km (3,106,000 miles) running on 100% Biodiesel from recycled vegetable oil from its outlets. Four years after the launch of the initiative, the McDonald’s UAE trucks traveled 5,000,000 km, almost 125 times around the world, driven on Biodiesel.
In support of a low-carbon, sustainable future, McDonald’s UAE is committed to protect and preserve the environment for future generations and is aiming to continue using the planet’s resources efficiently. Through using Biodiesel, McDonald’s UAE has saved 99% of CO2e throughout the four years compared to driving with normal petro-diesel.
“We are highly delighted about reaching the 5,000,000 km milestone after the launch in July 2011. In collaboration with Neutral Fuels, we are striving to reduce the carbon footprint of restaurants in the UAE by enabling renewable energy sourcing and minimizing waste and increasing recycling in McDonald’s restaurants such as through the Biodiesel campaign,” said Rafic Fakih, Managing Director and Partner at McDonald’s UAE states. “We look forward to continue working with them to evaluate even more progress and opportunities for improvement.”
The biodiesel campaign has been recognized from the UAE government, media and stakeholders around the world. In February 2012 the Dubai Road and Transport Authority recognized McDonald’s and Neutral Fuels for their commitment to sustainable transport when the Crown Prince of Dubai awarded them with the Dubai Award for Sustainable Transport in the Environmental Protection Category.
