Dundalk striker Michael O’Connor will go for an x-ray on Saturday morning to assess the damage to his injured ankle.

There are fears that the teenage striker, who made his league debut for the club in last week’s win against Bohemians, suffered ligament damage after going down in a heap at training on Thursday night.

O’Connor joins his older brother Ciaran (metatarsal), Ciaran Kilduff (vertebrae), Patrick McEleney (hamstring) and Stephen O’Donnell (ankle) on the sidelines.

“It’s quite a situation with our centre forwards at the moment,” said Dundalk boss Stephen Kenny after the 2–1 win over The Tribesmen.

“Obviously we have Ciaran O’Connor, Ciaran Kilduff and Patrick McEleney, who can also play centre forward, all out.

“Michael will have an x-ray on his ankle on Saturday morning so we’ll have to see what comes out of that.

“It’s just one of those things,” he added. “We were doing some crossing and finishing and he just fell over. There was nobody near him.

“He was due to go away with the Irish U18 squad to Germany this week but we kept him back and he probably would have come on tonight.

“It’s frustrating but it’s a challenge we have to overcome.”
