I had never really thought about the perceived gender differences when it comes to target audiences here in the west vs target audiences in Japan. I thought Inuyasha was an especially great example to use in this context. Looking back on it, I always did think Inuyasha was more feminine than it was masculine but, on closer inspection, it really does have traits that should appeal to both genders.
