The Thing About Advertising Awards
I’m going to share something with you, and it’s a little controversial.
Awards are just fancy stuff in the advertising world. It’s cool to be recognized and everyone that is, should feel some sense of pride about it.
It’s just that my goal has never ever been to win an award, like ever. It’s never even crossed my mind, because getting paid in cool little trophies would be tough to explain to the bank or my family at dinner time. My goal is always to grow your customers and revenue because that is all my clients care about.
Getting a trophy is like getting amazing Facebook engagement analytics, but it doesn’t equal sales or revenue. — so who cares??
My local Social Media Association chose one of my ads to be nominated in the category of “Politically Correct”. I was particularly excited because, to date, the post they chose was my most viewed and clicked post and read article.
The article I wrote talked about my past experiences on movie sets. I compared the similarities of being on set and making effective Facebook ads. I thought it was kind of clever and slightly interesting especially compared to the kinds of articles my competition writes. I think it’s important to set yourself apart from your competition.
Ironically, the only political association between my post and the group category is that I wrote it about the movie I worked on called “The Campaign”, starring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis. So I’m kind of doubtful it will win, if it is based on political criteria.
