Design Researcher

Medium is looking for a design researcher to join our growing design team. We’re a tight-knit group that is passionate and curious about the people we’re building for. We love research, and get there’s a lot of nuance to it. We know some about our users, but can’t wait to have the capabilities to learn more.

Who are you?

You’re always the one asking questions. You’ve been curious for as long as you can remember. And you love a good story.

More recently, as a researcher, you’ve worked on both strategic and tactical efforts — you’re just as good at getting a usability study done as a diary study. You measure yourself in impact on product, not pure research output. You love being able to contribute to a product that impacts people in profound ways.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the product, design, and engineering teams to do the most impactful and useful work possible in a start-up timeline
  • Recruit, design, execute, and analyze research studies at various stages in the product development process
  • Create actionable and inspiring communications of findings
  • Share findings and stories with the rest of company

Requirements

  • A strong research foundation via the social sciences, e.g. HCI, psychology, sociology, anthropology
  • At least 2 years of experience doing research on a web product
  • Experience in a diverse set of methodologies, e.g. usability, semi-structured interviews, surveys, A/B testing
  • Consistent record of great communication and deliverables

We work from the Medium offices in San Francisco and we’d love to hear from you; please send us your resume.
