You already know the answer

It’s Cinco De Mayo! One of my favorite holidays. In the very profound words of the Republican Presidential candidate, Donald Trump, “I love Hispanics!”

That’s enough, just a side note I felt like making because I enjoy Tequila.

I had mentioned in my last post that I was going to do an exercise that would help me define personal values. I still intend to, but haven’t yet today. Stay tuned.

But I did do something today that I was proud of. I didn’t buy anything from Amazon.

It’s not like I have an online shopping problem or anything, just hear me out. I’m a “life-long learner”. I really like to learn new things.

The problem is that sometimes I spend time learning something I already knew.

At times in my life, when I’m feeling creatively stuck, or perhaps frustrated with work I have turned to a new book, podcast, or audiobook to see if I can take something out of it that will spark my flame. Often times these things are inspiring, but other times they are a time-suck and repetitive.

This time around I had read various books that touched on the subject that was stumping me — I did not need to read a whole new book, where 50% or more was going to be repeat knowledge, and another 40% was going to be entertaining, anecdotal evidence. I just had to piece together sometime notes from a few things I had read before.

The lesson here, is that sometime you already know the answer you just have to think about it. Could I have paid $20 and spend 15 hours reading and come up with a great answer, sure. But I don’t need to.
