Your departure
Ripped the petals from a life
I’d coaxed out of the ground, sustained by your (distant) light,
And come to love.

I’ve held the stem tightly
Hands bloody from thorns I’d never noticed
Wounds throbbing with each beat of my heart
Unable to take a full breath.
