Meidoon Watch Weekly IV
Top of the Top News from Iran’s Social Media
This week was a roller coaster ride for Meidoon.com. Between our commendable battle against Argentina and the game referee, and our painful loss to Bosnia, Meidoon.com and meidoon.com/worldcup were flooded with World Cup related affairs.
One Round of Hookah = 40 Cigarettes
Cancer Tsunami. 16,500+ shares

While the rest of the world is watching the battle between E-cigarettes and the regular cancer stick, we like to keep things traditional in Iran and deliberate on our beloved practice of Hookah smoking. Four thousand doctors have warned the President about the “detrimental effects and the risk for cancer. Meanwhile, I am picturing the president smoking the hookah, like my other favourite Iranian leader, Nasereddin Shah.
Iranians & The National Soccer Team, post IRNvsARG
(un)conditional love. 16,000 shares
Iranians were quite happy and supportive of Team Melli’s well-planned performance in the battle against Argentina. Although we lost the game to the referee and Messi , the number one player in the world, Iranians across the world poured their love and support into cyberspace, for their team. In Tehran, the streets were bustling with supporters. The rest of the story, I will keep to myself. We love(d) our team, and we showed it, proudly.

Carlos Manuel Brito Leal Queiroz, The Great Coach
One way love affair . 20,000 shares
Queiroz , who has been coaching Team Melli since 2011, announced that he will be leaving Iran and its soccer team once they return from the World Cup. As Queiroz puts it, he loves Iran and all Iranians (I wonder where he’s been hanging out?), and the soccer team. BUT—officials don’t love him back, as he says he has received no solid offer for a renewal or extension of his contract. Iranian fans, unhappy about this announcement, quickly started hashtag #staywithusquieroz, and set up Facebook groups to fight for the coach. But as Queiroz himself says , Facebook doesn’t decide.

Majlis, not Convinced on the case of Tights
Tight but true. 15,700+ shares
I am quite happy to be able to always count on Majlis for some entertainment. The Minister of Interior was questioned on why he has not taken any action to stop the atrocity of wearing tights by ladies and girls and others in the country. I’m going to guess that the problems of inflation, addiction, suicide, imprisonment, hanging … have been solved, and it is now an appropriate to talk about pants. Social Media collectively wonders : is this a joke ?
Two Iranian World Cup Music Video Actors Arrested
Again. 10,000 shares
Two of the actors in the awesome video Ajam made for Team Melli and the World Cup were arrested in Shahrood. Needless to say, the video and song are full of spirit and move you no matter how anti-world cup you are.
Again the actors have “confessed” to their evil deeds, again the police chief has warned about this sort of pursuit, and again the two have been released. It was less than a month ago that the Happy video Iranians were arrested, confessed, and released.
