We’re such assholes in the US. We look down our noses at everyone, at all the people working hard every day, making money, building lives…why? We’re all just getting by!

It’s not just artists. Business people too. I’m an inventor and I have a startup right now. I used to make six figures because I was busy making other people rich. Now? I am making zero dollars. Let me tell you, it’s been HARD the last 6 months to say out loud in interviews, “I’m the CEO of…” knowing the next day I’m helping my friend box up food and wash pans at her food delivery company. Funnier still, while we’re working together she’s talking about the shame she feels picking up her kids while wearing her chef’s uniform, because, even though she’s a successful business owner, she knows people will look down on her.

There used to be an admirable trait, an ‘honest day’s work’ or a ‘hard worker’… where did that go? Are people supposed to starve or go into debt? People look at me the way they look at Jeffery Owens, “if you have patents, why aren’t you rich?” Doesn’t Work that way, kiddos! Just like TV. Sigh.
