Since 1870, the Metropolitan Museum of Art has been showcasing over 5,000 years of art through both its permanent and temporary exhibits. One of the museum’s upcoming exhibits is Michelangelo: Divine Draftsman and Designer, a once-in-a-lifetime exhibition that demonstrates Michelangelo’s mastery of architecture, sculpture, design, and drawing.
Scheduled to run from November 13, 2017 to February 12, 2018, this exhibit will include roughly 150 drawings from Michelangelo, along with three marble sculptures. In addition to this, guests at the Met will have the chance to view the earliest painting completed by Michelangelo and the wood architectural model that he made for a chapel vault.
Several international loans further round out the exhibit. These include the drawings that Michelangelo did for his friend Tommaso de’Cavalieri and a cartoon of his final fresco for the Vatican Palace. Together, these items will demonstrate the artist’s legacy and impact of the world of art and will show viewers why his contemporaries often referred to Michelangelo as The Divine One.
