Bernie reminds me of an uncle looking after the kids for the afternoon. The parents are the mean ones saying that the children have to do their homework, clean their rooms and eat their vegetables. In contrast, Bernie says the kids can have ice cream for breakfast and every day is their birthday (free health insurance, free college).

It’s not sustainable, of course, and it requires willful blindness on behalf of Bernie’s supporters. However, the allure of free stuff keeps them enthused.
