Doing good work is nice, but if your good work is similar to many other freelance writers (e.g., being a millennial or writing about racism/sexism), then there’s no real reason to fund you. You’re just one person in a very big crowd. I think the first hurdle to jump is distinguishing yourself from the crowd in the first place.
