I’ve found that I can evaluate the worth of work by how much people are willing to pay for it. That’s why I’m an amateur photographer. My photographs aren’t good enough for people to want to buy them.

I think this philosophy applies to writing as well. I suspect that the vast majority of academic papers are worthless, which is why the writers aren’t paid for them.
