It can be a difficult decision to make sometimes. I worked for a start-up many years ago (joined as employee 12 and left when the headcount was >1,000) and it worked out very well financially. There were several occasions when the company almost didn’t make payroll. As a single person when I started there, I could afford to gamble a bit on the company’s success, but I wouldn’t make that same gamble as a parent.
