It depends on how old you are, where you live, etc. Personally, I try to save 15–20 percent of what I make. A percentage of that goes into retirement, another percentage went into medium-term savings and so on. Once you live on 80 percent of what you make on an on-going basis, your longer-term goals will be significantly easier to reach and you have a greater margin of error in case something goes wrong in the future.
