When There Isn’t Enough Tax Revenue to Cover Basic Public Services

Based on the NYT story, the town’s government appears to have chosen the Washington Monument strategy (i.e., whenever the federal parks budget is cut, the department immediately closes the Washington Monument). Without knowing the specifics of the town’s budget, I’d be surprised if they couldn’t find other programs to cut prior to eliminating funding for the town’s libraries.
