In this article we’re going to cover:

  1. mind upload and the explosion of consciousness.
  2. a thought experiment to explain mind upload.
  3. merging two minds into one.
  4. The Oneness Hypothesis (Buddha knew about this 2500 years ago)

When you hear the word Internet,

The first thing that probably pops into your mind is a connected network of information,

Built upon a huge network of algorithms,

That is made to ensure the best information exchange between its users,

And it can be accessed through any device that has a processor, a ram, and a screen.

This looks unbeatable, doesn’t it?

But, what if I told you there can be more to it,

So much more that the average user wouldn’t even bare the idea that it is just a newer version of the internet,

What if I told you that this is a future that is not only probable, but certain.

Beyond the boundary of self, how will technology expand our consciousness to “objects”?

Introducing, Brain–computer interfaces,

Devices that when developed enough, Would not only be able to read your brain activity, but also write it an modify it depending on the inputs it receives from the neurons it’s connected to,

It’s efficiency comes from its ability to take advantage of the way the brain works,

While adding a whole new layer of features that the brain can actually perform, but its inability to send electromagnetic commands to devices outside of its entity stops it from expanding its consciousness to entities beyond the biological brain originally hosting it,

As your brain has billions of neurons communicating by giving inputs and receiving outputs from each other,

The Brain–computer interface would be able to interfere with the activity of these neurons by understanding the meaning of their firing patterns, and giving an output depending on the meaning understood,

The output could be a command sent to another device like a car, or your phone, or pretty much any device that has an internet connection and a CPU,

And it would be as seamless as moving a part of your body, because of the brain mimicking feature the interfering device would have,

But that’s not it,

As the device would also be able to send outputs it receives from other devices to your brain,

So your consciousness can actually shift from your body (a biological device) to any other device that has a wireless connection to the Brain–computer interface,

Be it biological like a cat, or technological like a drone,

The inputs that your brain would be able to receive will be translated into a sensory feeling that you can understand,

So practically speaking,

You will be able to fly with a biological creature that can fly like a bird, while also being able to feel the wind surrounding you,

You will become able to feel if someone touches your smart car that is in the other side of the world, or even see what your car sees,

(scientifically speaking, any entity you connect with would become a part of you like any other part in your body),

And with newer versions, other senses will be added,

for example, an ability to sense how far away an object is, instead of just knowing how far it is by a readable number,

It would work the same way your sense of hunger works,

You feel that you are hungry but you don’t know how much glucose is left circulating in your blood,

When you eat sodium rich foods, you feel the urge to drink water to prevent hypernatremia (the medical term used to describe having too much sodium in the blood) but you don’t know how much water you need to drink,

In short, your mind will no longer be bound to your body,

As any device that can simulate it would become an extension of you,

And for the first time in the history of humanity, you will become, truly, LIMITLESS.

Mind upload and the rise of Immortality :

“there would be more of you in the cloud than in your body” business magnate and “scientist” Elon Musk in his first podcast episode with Joe Rogan.

In fact,

Elon Musk also agrees with the possibility of uploading your brain to the cloud and living forever.

“I think it’s possible,” Musk, 50, told insider in an interview that the two made in April 2022. “Yes, we could download the things that we believe make ourselves so unique. Now, of course, if you’re not in that body anymore, that is definitely going to be a difference, but as far as preserving our memories, our personality, I think we could do that.” he added.

What may sound as science fiction though, is that what he said is actually scientifically possible,

And I will try to explain his point of view on a physics standpoint.

Important notice!

This is a thought experiment, so it’s important to imagine everything I say below in every detail in order to understand the meaning behind it.

And the thought experiment starts here.

Imagine if :

You are in a simulation,

The simulation has variables that can affect each other,

And the computer containing it has a database hosting information describing the state of everything in the simulated universe using ones and zeroes,

The state of everything in the universe changes according to time,

And there is a frequency at which the super quantum computer containing the universe can update the information of the state of the universe,

Now, this simulation is where you are now, you are a part of it, and so, you are affected by the same laws that everything else inside of it does, including the frequency of it (keep your focus on that).

Somewhere on this simulated earth there is a copying machine that can copy the information used to construct your body from the database, and paste it anywhere else on earth,

let’s call the place where you are now X and the place where you will be pasted to Y,

You may be asking which one of these two people would be you? WRONG QUESTION.

And wrong questions always give wrong answers.

Let’s correct the question and make it more scientifically acceptable,

If you are data represented by a code inside the computer’s database, and the copying machine can copy data,

Then your consciousness would also be copied, but how is this even possible?

Since we are wired to believe that our consciousness can only exist in one body, and not in anything else that can simulate it,

Even if it was an exact same copy of the original device that was simulating the original consciousness…

But this assumption is, scientifically wrong, and let me tell you why,

Remember when I told you about the frequency at which everything is rendered?

Let us assume it’s 60 frames per second for the sake of simplicity.

(Now, did you know that you are a biological device made out of 37.2 trillion cells? which are made out of 42 million molecules? with each molecule made out of a certain amount of atoms? making each cell made out of 100 trillion atoms?)

Btw, that was totally unnecessary, but here you go : )

Is any of that familiar? No? Fortunately, It doesn’t need to be,

All you need to know is that your body is only an entity of information (data) with many variables that can either affect, or be affected by variables outside of it following the low of cause and effect,

(e.g., the effect of the sun on your skin, or the effect of your hand on the device in front of you, etc…),

If that’s what your body truly is, then It’s exactly why the question you asked before is wrong,

Considering that the variables that your body is consisting of are updated 60 times each second, the information needed to construct your consciousness and your memories would also be updated 60 times per second,

But, you may ask, how is it possible that all of this change happens in my brain all the time without making me lose my identity?

That’s because your identity is different, it’s based on your memories, and your memories are coded in the connections between the tens of billions of neurons in your brain,

So, your brain is actually simulating your past experiences in a network of neurons, and the network will be preserved no matter how many times per second information in the universe changes,

Because evolution has made it this way so that we can preserve memories and use them to make the right decisions in the future.

As you can see in the video below,

If you were to look inside the matrix hosting the variables of this neural network, you will see that they are changing all the time,

But that doesn’t matter, as long as the connection between neurons is still protected,

The conscious mind arising from it will be preserved.

a video demonstrating a 3d simulation of a neural network

So, what does all of this lead us to?

Well, I basically said that our brains do change all the time, but that doesn’t make us change who we are,

And if all of this change doesn’t affect your identity, then what difference does it make if you completely changed the hardware used to simulate your brain into a whole new hardware,

Would it change your identity?

No, because that wouldn’t make make any sense.

If it did, then there is surely something wrong with our understanding of the universe,

So this proves that the memory simulating device doesn’t matter, the memory simulation in the device is the real deal,

Because it’s what makes us who we are,

Which basically means, that any entity that can simulate our memories, regardless of its shape, its composition, or (even the universe its simulated in), would theoretically be, exactly, YOU.

But that’s not it, because it turns out, even if there were many devices simulating your brain with all its memories and feelings and every other feature your brain has at the same time,

They will still be you, even if the connection between the neurons are not 100% the same.

Confused? let me explain.

The Oneness Hypothesis: Beyond the Boundary of Self

In the beginning of the universe, 13.8 billion years ago, and shortly after the big bang, the universe was simple, and it was seen as one entity that everything in it is connected,

Today, it’s still connected in the same way, it’s just that it doesn’t look that way to you because of the complexity it developed over time,

But at its core, it’s still the same universe and you and everyone else are small parts of it, made out of atoms connected together in a way that makes you be who you are and do what you do.

The question is, if you and everyone else are in one universe, doesn’t that mean that you all are one big consciousness?

And the strange answer to this question is, yes, you are, and the only thing that’s stopping you from knowing it is the inability of your brain to access other brains memories,

In other words,

You and me are the same person, but as long as I don’t have access to your memories I wouldn’t know it,

And after I finally get access to your memories, I will then know that I was you from the beginning…

After reading this, you may wonder, will the consciousness that has both our memories connected in one neural network be me with your memories or you with my memories?

But that question, even if it sounds rational, it’s actually not, as me and you being simulated in separate devices with different inputs and therefore different outputs, doesn’t mean that we are also separate from the universe’s point of view,

Because from it’s perspective, me and you are only a bunch of atoms arranged together to form a device that humans call “a brain” and that device is the universe experiencing itself from a different perspective that is a human being’s one,

And this means that a device that can simulate my consciousness along with yours on the same neural network will be me, or you, or even the universe if you want,

Because in the end we are all one consciousness scattered across the universe, with each part of it getting different inputs, which in the end makes it feel disconnected.

This started to feel like an article written by some Gautama Buddha,

But that’s because, for some reason that I don’t know, he knew about this 2500 years ago,

I’m not one of his followers, which means that my conclusions are not based on his, and yet, he still somehow managed to get to the same conclusions as mine,

2500 YEARS AGO !!!

I really don’t know what’s going on here, if you have any idea, I would really appreciate your comment!

To be continued…

Hi, I’m MetaHomo,

I love science and philosophy, because they make me feel comfortable knowing that I’m part of a connected universe that is possible to understand,

And I also like the fact that there is a theory of everything that we still don’t know for sure,

But just the fact that everything around us follow one law, that can be represented by an equation no more than 1 inch long, which also can be used to make a copy of our universe in a simulation,

IS INCREDIBLY FASCINATING TO ME !!

If you liked this article, follow me for more,

Check it out, you’ll love it! : )

I also started writing an eBook on 01/2022 that will be covering all the areas mentioned above and more, I can’t wait to share it with you very soon!

That’s it for today, catch you guys in the next one, and as always, stay curious!
