Why I love ugly, messy interfaces — and you probably do too
Jonas Downey

You think Facebook and Craigslist are bad….Have you ever seen medical software? Good god. Talk about ugly and complex. But that is the nature of the beast. It has to be complex or it will fail to match the needs of the user.

As a designer in the medical industry, I am under the firm belief that a designer has never truly designed a day in his life until they have attempted to design an EHR for a hospital filled with varying types of healthcare professionals all with their own needs, wants, and workflows.

The words “simple” and “minimal” are not in my vocabulary. Every day is a challenge. It never ends and it’s never easy.

I envy people that work at simple places like Snapchat and Facebook. That’s easy. Designing for the consumer space is always easier than designing for highly skilled labor positions.
