2015 Resy Tech Year in Review
What a year 2015 was for tech at Resy. I feel incredibly fortunate that I get to tell the story here because I’m so proud of what the team accomplished and what is in store for 2016.
Resy is a company comprised of engineers and professionals from the hospitality industry. We are restaurant people bringing to market a paradigm shift in technology built for restaurants, with restaurants.
We embrace openness, often partnering with competitors to make sure our clients can choose the best solution for their business. If a restaurant chooses to use my competitor’s analytics product over mine, even though we’re feeding data to it, it’s my belief that we all win because the restaurant does.
Here’s what we did in 2015:
- We introduced Channels, a comprehensive system for serving reservations to targeted groups of users. Our partners at The Hillstone Group and Winsome in Los Angeles are using Channels for loyalty programs and Friends and Family.
- To make Channels extremely effective we introduced Scope, the ability to serve different reservations to different platforms: the web, the Resy iOS and Android apps, third party developers. Among many others our partners at Charlie Bird in NYC, Jon & Vinny’s in Los Angeles, Mina Test Kitchen in San Francisco and Peter Chang in Washington, DC are all taking advantage of Scope.
- Covering almost every POS available today we introduced ResyPOS which brings real time, line item POS data and analytics to ResyOS, pinned to a user record. We’re providing advanced reporting and functionality to partners like Animal in Los Angeles and Trestle on Tenth in NYC.
- We launched the Resy Platform API, a simple way to integrate reservation functionality into any application. Over 30 teams of developers are working to integrate the Resy Platform API including Button, Bellhop and Assi.st.
- Version 2 of Resy Widget was deployed including a beautiful redesign. With 3 lines of code the widget can be deployed to any web site (and now Facebook) to provide a native booking experience within our partners’ websites. Several hundred partners are seeing enormous value from Resy Widget.
- We built Resy Big Scale, a product to address large volume ticket sales where tens of thousands of users are vying to make purchases in a time span of just seconds. We’re proud to have Dominique Ansel as a partner on Resy Big Scale.
- The Resy platform now provides a real time communication hub via email, text, and push notification including two way text communication between restaurants and their guests. Almost every ResyOS partner is communicating this way.
- Restaurants wanted the ability to customize their communications with guests so we added that. Which alerts fire and what they say are now in the control of the restaurant. To cover all of our bases we introduced a white-label product to give complete control over branding, look and feel.
- To address an increasing audience using the Resy product we added OAuth2 and Resy Concierge, products that allow third parties to securely book reservations on behalf of others. In addition to third party developers making use of these we’re helping concierges Abigail Michaels, 400, and Insider to book incredible dining experiences for their clients.
- In addition to ticketing and table merchandising we added deposits and cancellation fees giving restaurants 100% control of how they price and sell their reservations. Partners like Porchlight in NYC and Atelier Crenn in San Francisco benefits from these additions.
- I’m particularly excited about Resy Cmdline; have a conversation with our AI and we’ll help you book a reservation at an amazing restaurant all via text message, Slack, Facebook Messenger and others.
We got a lot done and there is much more. The software behind Resy continues to be world class and I would like to thank Adam, Eric, John, Lisa, Mike, Paul, Rob, and Seinna for their hard work and incredible contribution.
As I write this there are several announcements I wish I could tell you about but we are keeping them a secret. To say the least Resy will change hospitality tech again in 2016 with a host of products that our partners can’t wait to get their hands on.
