Four Interesting Facts About Author Ernest Hemingway

An entrepreneur and investor, Michael T. Jackson is a former resident of Belvedere, California. In 2002, Michael T. Jackson established his family office, SFG Asset Advisors, LLC. The firm manages the Jackson family assets, focusing on emerging markets and hedge fund investments. After SFG Asset Advisors was up and running, Michael T. Jackson retired from the company’s everyday operations and relocated from Belvedere, California to Palm Beach, Florida.

Outside of work, Michael T. Jackson enjoys reading. He considers “For Whom the Bell Tolls”, by Ernest Hemingway, to be one of his favorite books. Ernest Hemingway was a very interesting figure. Some intriguing facts about him include:

1. Hemingway survived two plane crashes and four car accidents over the course of his life. In addition, he beat malaria, pneumonia, diabetes, hepatitis and anthrax exposure, only to take his own life in the end.

2. Toward the end of his life, Hemingway was watched closely by the FBI and J. Edgar Hoover because during World War II, the Soviet Union recruited him for espionage purposes. Later, however, it was shown that he never leaked any intelligence to the Russians.

3. The troubles in Hemingway’s life began early. When he was a child, his mother called him Ernestine and put him in dresses, having hoped he would be a girl. At the age of six, though, he asserted his male identity.

4. He stole the urinal in his favorite bar and placed it in his house, citing the money he “pissed away” at the bar over the years as justification.
