Georgia DMV’s Point System

Like most states, Georgia employs a point system to keep dangerous or reckless drivers off the road. The state reserves the right to suspend your license if you have accumulated 15 points within a two-year period, or if you have committed numerous serious offenses such as hit and run, racing, or fleeing a police officer. Those who rack up more than 15 points of violations will only have their license returned by completing a Georgia Department of Driver Services-approved defensive driving course.
Drivers can incur up to six points for aggressive driving, such as going 34 or more miles per hour over the speed limit or passing a school bus while it is stopped load or unload passengers. Other serious offenses include improper passing on a curve or hill (four points) and failing to react properly to instruction from traffic-controlled devices or officers (three points).
