Yes, I am Extreme….
Yesterday at Church I sat down with my wife to start worshiping. Just as I sat down I heard a woman behind me mention my name. I thought, “Well this is going to be nice.” She recognizes me and I’ll turn around and say hello and that I’m the Coach Micheal Burt she was referring to. Right as I started to turn around and introduce myself she said, “I’ve been to some of Coach Burt’s trainings. He’s a little too extreme for me. He yells too much.” I quickly turned and walked on to the bathroom and never said a word.
At first I got defensive. I’ll tell her. Oh yeah, we are at church. Aren’t people supposed to be nice at church. Then it hit me. I should wear this as a badge of courage.
I am extreme.
I do yell from time to time.
I do care so much about my work that I get excited.
I want my clients to have “record years.”
I will fight for the people I believe in.
I’m the exact opposite of calm, quiet, reserved, and dis-connected.
I then begin to think about the difference between being excited and being lukewarm. What’s the opposite of extreme? Lukewarm. Complacent. Passive. Cold.
The reality is I’m only looking for extreme people who don’t hold anything back. I’m only looking for people who want more time, freedom, intensity, faith, money, confidence, structure, or impact.
I’m looking for the crazies, the ones that believe they too can change the world. I’m looking for the ones who think different, want to stand out vs. fit in, and believe that we can’t get there without the help of another.
In the end I’m only looking for people who are looking for me. Just know this when you go out into the world and put yourself on the front line. Some will like what you do and subscribe. Some won’t like what you do and subscribe. So what? With over 7 billion people on the planet I’m sure you can find the ones who line up with you.
