I think you missed another fundamental reason vaginal blood, as well as other mundane aspects of women’s bodies, can be so controversial. Whore-Madonna complex aside, modern humans have set themselves so far apart from nature that we do not see ourselves as animals, despite animal instinct still driving so much of our behavior. The males of our species, in particular and often by their own admission, frequently are driven by animal urges that are incongruent with a modern technological society, for example, the intense interest in brute force competitions like football, the sexual roving and aggression that is written off as “boys will be boys” behavior no matter how egregious, and the desire to control the very female sexuality they at once covet and fear. Women are not exempt from animal instinct; however, in large part, it seems to manifest in other ways, such as maternal instinct and desire for a mate who can protect and provide. Yes, even feminists tend to go for someone they feel safe with although their definition of safe may not require the ability to take down a tiger if the situation should arise. I assert that animal instinct actually is the driving force behind the anti-choice movement in the U.S. The animal instinct of fear of extinction can be a powerful motivator for irrational action. But, I digress.
The logic of your argument is completely sound, but if you expected anything other than the response you received you were completely naive. The Internet has become such a vile place to share your thoughts over the last twenty years that it is amazing anyone ever imagined great social and scientific breakthroughs as the potential outcome of this communications frontier. Yet, share we must if we are to see change in the world. While I do not share your personal style of confronting issues, I do share and understand your desire to do so. I can tell you will continue to push the envelope with your writing and posts and wish you the best as you do so. But take care of yourself. Don’t spend too much time mucking about in the bile spit up by fearful, ignorant people lest you slip and fall. Remain free and honest but, most of all, remain kind to others and to yourself.
