Nia’s Chance, Episode II
No way out
Nia stopped breathing when she saw the woman sleeping in her bed. She watched the stranger sleep so peacefully. She heard the shower running and nothing mattered as her world shattered. She numbed herself. She backed out the room trying to figure out the woman’s face, if she recognized her.
As she exited her home, unable to breathe properly, her body convulsed as she threw up. She rested there in the grass trying to ground herself, trying to think, trying to understand. She was unable to form any tears, form any emotion. She drove for hours, blurred to all that surrounded her yet rendering pieces of her soul with every mile. She was unable to comprehend anything so she focused on driving to nowhere.
Returning home, she had no answers and still no tears. Noah had texted several times wanting to know where she was. Now to face him as if “the woman” never happened….as she opened the front door she remembered the woman’s name, Sherrie, the new Church member from her class.
Nicolas met her at the door, happy not noticing her frail state. She kept quiet for those years; even after Nicholas admitted Sherrie was more than a new member and ended their affair she never told him about that terrible night. Nicholas was always so unaware.
Now, she is doing the very same thing he did. She was not sure she could stop or that she wanted to stop. Thoughts of Noah hit her, took her breathe away…
