5 Ways To Create an Audio Content Marketing Strategy

Usually when someone states they want to start a blog you immediately think written content. Today, with the speed of technology live streams and videos are dominating our timelines and websites. But what if you are straddling the fence where writing takes time and you are not quite comfortable with video. Here are four things to consider on incorporating an audio content marketing strategy.

  1. Podcast — Two of the biggest challenges is coming up with content and promoting a product. If you are a service based business without a product becoming a guest on a podcast maybe beneficial. If you do have a product podcast are a good way to get the word out about your journey leading up to the product. Of course, you will have to create a compelling story with some talking points, but this avoids the workload of maintaining a weekly blog or podcast. I started off doing several podcast interviews to promote my book before I even thought about creating my own show. Being a guest is a great warmup!
  2. Apps — If you are not prepared for long form audio there are apps like Clammr (24 seconds) and Anchor (120 seconds) that allow you to record audio clips and gain followers. If you are quick with motivating, witty, and educational concise content these apps can allow you to gain a loyal audience. Each app works with iOS and will post on Facebook or Twitter.
  3. SoundCloud — This is more than a music platform. Harvard Business Review, Playstation, both are on the platform. Harvard uses it to broadcast forums, speeches, and similar material. Cambridge and Yale use it in a similar matter. SoundCloud is a good option if you are right there in the middle of short and long form audio content.
  4. Audio Recorder — Sticking to the basics. Let’s face it we are all busy and we usually end up missing those random sticky notes with our life changing advice that needs to get out to the world. Lately I have been recording my thoughts and rants whether I am at home, car or standing in the bank line. We all have those moments when that thought comes and it’s best to record it now and elaborate later. If you are a teacher, speaker, or find yourself in good conversation those audio files can turn into your next book. Gary Vaynerchuk is known for leveraging his audio (and video) and flipping it into a book.
  5. Creating Images With Sound — Another thing add short audio snippets to relevant images that can be displayed on Instagram or Facebook. Taking a piece from your audio recorder and combining it with relevant images allows you to leverage your voice while creating a video. This is really popular on YouTube where individuals will talk over their PowerPoint presentations or even full podcast episodes with images.

Although you are focusing on audio content don’t forget your call CTAs. Make sure of the following:

  • State your name with a brief introduction.
  • State your website with any free resources.
  • Promote your website, product, or an upcoming event.

The way we learn varies from visual, kinesthetic, and auditory. There are dozens of audio platforms, find what works best for you. Deciding if you should add audio to your content marketing should be an easy Yes. Consider what are you listening to when you are driving or working out at the gym. Wouldn’t it be great if someone is listening to you?
